Hi! This is a very complex and multifaceted question that has no easy answer. It is difficult to define what 'grip' is. Things that definitely affect it are air density and humidity, and the pitch/shape of the props (not really so much the motors used.) More air over the disc area per second does not necessarily translate to more grip - biblades and high kv generally generate the most thrust (all the Guiness record breaking drones use them) but definitely not good grip. The purpose of using high kv motors and low pitch props is to generate roughly the same amount of thrust as an equivalent lower kv motors and high pitch prop setup, while the thin and low pitch props have less inertia and can hence change speeds faster for a more responsive feel and better cornering ability. This is why whoop racing has slowly transitioned to super high kv and super light props.

Hey! Thanks for your comment. Try playing some simulator so you have a good idea how to string different gate elements together into a cohesive flow. As you have mentioned, it is a different skill to be able to fly through tiny gaps in the house and be able to string them together consistently for several laps.

@@WerdnaFPV Thanks. I have both a meteor65 pro and a mobeetle6. (bnf because parts are hard to come by to diy). Anyhow they are fine to practice tinywhoop with. I've been flying for years (5inch mostly). I'm using velocidrone for whoops (I have the pack), but the meteor65 feels nothing like the irl version. Is there anything you'd recommend for setup in velocidrone to have it feel more real? I have physics set to medium and set my rates to my irl rates. Maybe a velocidrone video for whoop setup? No one has done anything like that. Cheers

@@xyic0re714 Don't use the same rates as 5 inch. I recommend to start with a whoop rate preset and then fine tune that for your liking. To get the best vdrone whoop experience, fly open class 3 laps with a beta 75 or mobula7. I also recommend getting a 240hz or higher monitor if you don't have one as it makes a big difference to the velocidrone experience. I might make a setup video on my Instagram if I have time

Happymodel branded motors suck ass. Their qc is a lot better when making motors for name brands like webleed and tiny whoop Betafpv motors are a very solid performance choice

@@gonebdg From looking at the designs I don't think they are the same manufacturer. Different magnet, bell design, and other minor differences. It should be released in the next few months

@@butterflyfpv afaik, no. There's no benefit to increasing kv much above 30,000. For most races above 28,500 is already overkill.

@@WerdnaFPV But most races are over 3 laps that are flown in about 25 seconds (or less) per lap, right? Then 1:30-2:00 minutes of flight time is enough? I think it's so much better with too much kv. Because you can always do a throttle cut. And even motor output limit if necessary. A motor with more kv always has a lower internal resistance and is more efficient when operated at high speeds than a lower kv motor that is flown with a lot of 100% throttle. That's why low kv just doesn't make sense to me. Plus, high kv motors get along really well with the stock pid tune. And thanks to the scope of the kv, you have the opportunity to adapt the whoop to larger and smaller race tracks with throttle cut etc. I made a video with my new meteor75 pro 2S on 1102 18000kV motors. It flies so well with throttle cut of 60%, throttle mid to 0.0 and throttle expo 60%! Flight time is also super good for the power you get. I would never go back to low kv. Or maybe I'm seeing the wrong thing? I don't understand why some pilots still prefer low kv. It practically only has disadvantages. What are the advantages?

@@butterflyfpv some sort of buffer for flight time is always necessary. If I am completing 3 laps in 25 seconds each, I need a flight time much longer than 1.30 to account for mistakes, turtle mode, etc. Many USA races do a 2 minute format with 4-5 laps which is totally untenable for flying at high speed with >30,000kv motors. Perhaps it is different in Europe. I disagree that a high kv with throttle cut always performs better. You can scale back a 32500kv motor to 27000kv but the throttle curve will be different and there is always less torque on the low end. If the logic that high kv is always better we should be putting up 40000kv motors or even higher. But we don't see that. Lastly I consistently see that my FCs die quicker with very high kv. More ESC burn, more desync at full throttle and generally less reliable. It is not so much a problem with the PID tune but rather hardware limitations with the ESCs. Ayyykayyy and other pilots were testing stupidly high kvs above 40,000 and they always, always made the ESC burn faster even on 1S.
